The Promotion Committee seeks to blend the Main Street program into a coherent marketing, advertising, and public relations program for all of Downtown Somerville. This process can include sponsoring or holding special events to promote Downtown Somerville retailers, or working with marketing professionals to determine ways to attract new customers to shop, dine, and visit downtown.

The goal of the Promotion Committee is to market Downtown Somerville, establish a unified image, and encourage an exciting variety of activities for all members of the community through development of image campaigns, retail events, and festivals; a marketing strategy; and an annual calendar of events.

The Recruitment Committee works on the nuts and bolts of economic development in Downtown Somerville. It analyzes current economic conditions and works toward improving areas of need. The committee develops support programs for existing businesses and facilitates the recruitment of new businesses.

The Goal of the Recruitment Committee is to strengthen and broaden the economic base of the downtown through collecting, interpreting, and using market data; strengthening and retaining current businesses; stimulating the adaptive reuse of existing space; and recruiting new businesses into Downtown Somerville.

The Design Committee is charged with knowing about and improving the "look" of Downtown Somerville. Its work can include cover issues such as improving street signs, assisting with storefront design, or the appearance of our parking lots.

The goal of the Design Committee is to encourage improvement of Downtown Somerviile’s physical appearance through design education and technical assistance; financial assistance and incentives for design improvements; public improvements and open spaces; and design regulations and enforcement.

Organization Committee

The Organization Committee works on communication, membership development, and volunteer recruitment, training and recognition. It publishes our newsletter for business and property owners two times a year and plans and coordinates our annual meeting and fundraising programs.

The goal of the Organization Committee is to establish a strong Main Street organization that utilizes a growing number of participants in the implementation and funding of the program through internal and external communication and membership development.
